Height: 2 3/8 inch, Diameter at Top: 2 1/2 inch One of the many interesting shapes from the Sowerby factory. A mixture of round, straight and curved elements is combined in a very pleasing overall design. The dimensions of the various parts are equally well-balanced. The photo at the bottom right is of the interior of the bowl. This shows that the Sowerby trademark and the Registration Lozenge have been applied with their edges falling into the central dip, resulting in a loss of definition. The design is dated 16 August, 1878 ("16" at the top, "D" to the right, "R" to the bottom), and the parcel number is 11. I originally read this mark as having a "K", indicating November, but it has since been shown that it is an "R" with a poor impression at the top. Formerly in the Cyril Manley collection. |
