Diameter: 7 1/2 inch, Height: 3 1/8 inch A nice example of American Carnival glass from arguably the better of the various makers. And what a wonderful colour. The pattern is "Leaf and Beads". In this example the patterning is entirely on the outside of the piece. Only the lower part of the otherwise entirely smooth inner surface has any moulding - and this is for the well-known makers mark, an underlined "N" in a circle. It seems strange that perhaps the most interesting parts of the design are normally hidden from view - the depth of foliage on the underside and the round, moulded basal part. Update, June 2002. I am indebted to Glen Thistlewood for pointing out an inaccuracy in my initial description. I had stated that the "Leaf and Beads" pattern was made my other makers, but Glen pointed out that it was a Northwood-only design. |
