Vasart (Ysart Brothers) Bottle

VasartDarkBlue.jpg

This example of a "Vasart" (Ysart Brothers) Inkwell has a body profile very similar to the Monart ZG shape. Its stopper, however is of the regular size known in many "Vasart" bottles.

The striping in the neck and well portions is quite weak and the stopper has more of a "dashed" look than striped. From the top, it is very evident that the canes in the body are well off-centre. Whether these "poorer" features are indicative of the item being made by Vincent or Augustine, rather than Salvador, is open to debate.

A particular feature of this item is that the twist canes in the stopper do not match those in the body. The millefiori do match. I suppose it is possible that if there were a series of similar bottles being made at around the same time, then the stoppers may have been placed with "wrong" bodies. However, the stopper in this example fits well and the blue coloring is identical in both the stopper and body, so perhaps mismatched twists are simply a "design variation".

Overall height, including stopper: 10.7 cm (4 3/16 inch)
Diameter of body: 9.9 cm (3 15/16 inch)
Diameter of stopper: 3.2 cm (1 1/4 inch)
